Greco SS SG model I have seen many Japanese made guitars. Well, everybody said Japanese Vintage guitars now. I felt now it made many misunderstanding for the users. I would not tell all JV guitars are fine. Some of them are really fine, better than original Gibson or Fender, but no all guitars are better. Greco brand were made by Matsumoku in 70's. After Matsumoku, Greco has changed it to Fujigen. Which made is better? This is nonsense question. Both companies are made due to Greco requirements. They were making Aria, Ibanez and other brands too. At early 70's time, they just made guitars to concentrate outlook copy. The dimensions, hardware, electric pot... they cared, but not cared seriously. I had Greco SG-600 before. It has set-in neck construction type. However, body is not real mahogany, the neck is maple 3P, humbucking PU wasn't pot in Paraffin. So, sound is not like SG guitar. It was better looks than SG-300 or other bolt on neck type SG. Into 80's, they seriously follow the original Gibson. They started real mahogany neck and body, not pancake body. Of course, the pickups were improved like Gibson construction. Other hardware was improved a lot. Even Frets, screws are improved. Because, they made enough profit to invest to follow the original quality. On the other hand, Gibson and Fender became the very poor quality. They concentrate how to make a profit too! This SG guitar was made 80+, it was actually good time for Fujigen to make the good replica. They use real mahogany and better guitar parts. A guitar can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. When judging only by appearance and age. This is mainly for appreciation, or something that satisfies the desire to possess like antiques. However, when viewed as a playing instrument, it is not suitable for guitars made of solid materials and parts. Many users would argue otherwise, but if you think about it, if you wanted to make a guitar at a cheap price, you had no choice but to use cheap materials. Also, since it is a rarity model, if it is a model with a small number of production and in good condition, the value will increase. However, it is also true that the guitars we see these days are often in very poor condition are of low rarities, do not receive any maintenance, and are sold with high price tags. Should Back this guitar, this is proper condition. The neck is fine and frets are fine. I have checked the electric circuits are fine too. Good JV guitar, if you like to get it! |
